Long Horn Storage Rowlett Texas Self Storage

  • Refrigerators/freezers should be thoroughly dry and stored with doors slightly ajar.
  • Make sure that stoves and cooking equipment are cleaned before they are stored.
Bicycles and Other Metal Items
  • To retard rust, wipe all metal surfaces with a rag containing a few drops of machine oil.
Books and Documents
  • Pack books flat to protect their spines and do not overload.
Bedding, Clothing, Curtains, Drapes and Linens
  • Items should be carefully folded and stored in dresser drawers, cedar chests or wardrobe style cardboard cartons.
  • Pack some clothes from bureaus in boxes or suitcases so the bureaus won't be too heavy to move. Consider the clothes as packing material in between breakable items or to fill spaces in other boxes.
Dishes and Glassware
  • Place a layer of packing inside the bottom and at the top of boxes containing glassware.
  • All glass items should be individually wrapped: nest cups and bowls and stand plates, saucers and platters on edge.
  • Place a pallet, corrugated cardboard mat, or plastic sheet on the floor and stand sofas and mattresses on end.
  • Disassemble beds and tables and wrap table legs in paper.
  • Keep upholstery off the floor.
  • Load your upholstered furniture early. It's easier than fighting space with it later.
  • Place a light cotton (e.g., a bed sheet) dust cover on your furniture or several types of dust covers can be purchased.
Holiday Decorations
  • Save the original cartons that contained delicate ornaments and pad the ornaments with packing paper or newsprint.
  • Wrap strings of lights around a piece of cardboard before placing in a carton lined with packing paper.
  • Wrap large lamps and place them in boxes and pack delicate lamp shades separately.
  • Do not use newsprint to wrap lamp shades or any other goods that may be damaged by ink stains.
  • Do not store heavy items on cartons containing lamp shades.
  • Pack lamps and lamp shades in individual boxes, using plenty of clean paper or clothing for padding.
Mirrors, Windows and Screens
  • These items should be stored on edge, not flat.
  • For prints, mirrors, artwork and glass use mirror boxes and wrap in bubble wrap. Put tape across the front of the mirrors like an X to keep pieces in place in case the glass breaks. Fill the sides of boxes with packing material.
  • Metal tools should be cleaned and wiped with a rag containing a few drops of machine oil to retard rust.
  • Long-handled tools such as rakes, shovels and hoes should be clean, lightly oiled and tied in bundles.
Stereos, VCR, DVD Players
"Pack your stereo, computer, VCR, etc. in their original boxes."
General Storage
  • Avoid storing anything that may attract pests.
  • Stack boxes shoulder-high to maximize your total locker space.
  • Cover the entire load with a light plastic cover.
Lawn and Garden
  • Drain any fluids prior to storage to avoid corrosive damage.
  • Use trash cans to store shovels, hoes and rakes.
Combustible Items (NOT ALLOWED)
  • Explosives, flammable liquids and fuels, toxic materials, or other items that need a controlled environment.
